What’s the same?
All Colleges require that health records be kept confidential through the life cycle of the record, which includes disposal and destruction. Destruction must match the medium; for example, paper documents should be cross-shred and computer hard drives physically destroyed to ensure that information cannot be retrieved.
There are no significant differences between the Colleges. We all need to ensure records are destroyed in a confidential and secure manner.
Willow Pines Clinic has a policy in place to make sure all patient records are destroyed thoroughly to avoid breaches of confidentiality. The inter-professional team also made sure that the Health Information Custodian (HIC) understands the rules defined in the Personal Health Information and Protection Act, 2004 (PHIPA).
