An Inter-Professional Record Keeping Resource
Regulated health professionals often work together to provide safe, quality care to their patients and clients. Record keeping is an essential part of that care, but is it possible to work efficiently in a multi-disciplinary setting when the standards, regulations and policies of six different Colleges apply? Yes.
The Colleges that regulate, chiropractors, kinesiologists, massage therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, audiologists and speech language pathologists in Ontario are working together to make things simpler and nurture professional collaboration.
This resource is a start. It summarizes key requirements for the vital function of record keeping, identifies similarities and differences among the Colleges, and offers actual In Practice examples for inter-professional teams.
You will see that there are no major differences, but the resource does not replace individual College regulations, standards and policies. And while all Colleges agree on the principles of accuracy, timeliness and comprehensiveness, practitioners are expected to apply professional judgement when using any resource.
